HARIBO was founded on December 13, 1920, by Hans Riegel in Bonn, Germany (HAns RIegel BOnn). Original HARIBO products were made by Hans with nothing more than a bag of sugar and the tools in his kitchen.
In 1922, Hans Riegel invented the Dancing Bear, the precursor to the now iconic HARIBO Goldbear.
Founder Hans Riegel died in 1945. In 1946, Hans's sons, brothers Hans and Paul Riegel, took over the company. Dr. Hans Riegel, Jr., handled the business, while Paul Riegel handled the production.
HARIBO Goldbears were released in 1960 and became an instant favorite. The German Patent Office officially recognized the Goldbear as a registered trademark in 1967.
In 1982, HARIBO journeyed over the Atlantic and set up a United States office in Baltimore, Maryland.
